Summer of Brahms Weekly Video Concert Series

In light of the new challenges we are all facing on a daily basis, and the uncertainty that has put worldwide events on hold, we are proud to present concert videos that highlight performances from the Summer of Brahms Chamber Music Festival.

Although we had to cancel the Summer of Vienna for 2020 (due to the Coronavirus) we are actively planning to present the Festival in the summer of 2021.

Celebrating the great music of Beethoven and Schubert will be an Amazing journey, that we can’t wait to share with you.

It is because of your continuing generous support that we are able to present these Chamber Music Festivals. Your support will be critical in making this next Festival possible.

We look forward to seeing all of you at this exciting musical celebration of Beethoven and Schubert’s beautiful music.

This week's presentation begins with the Brahms Violin Sonata No.3 in D minor Op.108 performed by Cho-Liang Lin on Violin and Rohan De Silva on Piano.

The next work is the Brahms Piano Trio No.1 in B Major Op.8 performed by Rohan De Silva on Piano, Cho-Liang Lin on Violin and Andrew Shulman on Cello.

This week we present the Brahms String Quintet No.1 in F Major Op.88, featuring Margaret Batjer and Rafael Rishik on Violin, Che-Yen Chen and Robert Brophy on Viola and Robert deMaine on Cello.


5/30/20

This week's presentation starts with the Brahms Piano Quartet No.3 in C Minor Op.60. This performance features Rohan De Silva on Piano, Cho-Liang Lin on Violin, Che-Yen Chen on Viola, and Paul Watkins on Cello. 

The concluding work is the Brahms String Quartet No.3 in B Flat Major Op. 67 performed by the NHSQ, Roger Wilkie on Violin, Rafael Rishik on Violin, Robert Brophy on Viola and Andrew Shulman on Cello.

This week's presentation is the Brahms String Quintet No.2 in G Major Op.111. This performance features Martin Chalifour and Rafael Rishik on Violin, Robert Brophy and Che-Yen Chen on viola and Andrew Shulman on Cello. Composed in 1890 at the age of 57. Brahms had intended this to be his final work.


5/16/2020

We will start this week's presentation with the Brahms Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor Op. 38 featuring Paul Watson on Cello and Rohan De Silva on Piano. This work was mostly composed during the summer of 1862 at the age of 29. The last movement, however, was not completed until 1865.

Next we have the Brahms String Quartet in C minor Op 51 performed by the the NHSQ, featuring-Roger Wilkie and Rafael Rishik on Violin, Robert Brophy on Viola and Andrew Shulman on Cello. This work was composed in 1873 at age of 44.

We will start this week's presentation with the Brahms Violin Sonata No.2 in A Major Op.100 featuring Cho-Liang Lin on Violin and Rohan De Silva on Piano. Brahms composed the piece while spending the summer in Thun, the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland in the year 1886 at the age of 53.

Next we have the Brahms Horn Trio In E Flat Major Op.40 featuring Benadene Blaha on Piano, Amy Jo Rhine on Horn and Jessica Guideri on Violin. Brahms composed this work in 1865 at the age of 32 to commemorate the death of his mother, Christiane, earlier that year.

We will start this week's presentation with the Brahms Violin Sonata No.1 in G Major Op.78 featuring Margaret Batjer on Violin and Robert Thies on Piano.

That will be followed by the Brahms Piano quartet No.1 in G Minor Op.25 IV. Rondo alla Zingarese featuring Lynn Harrell on Cello, Steven Vanhauwaert on Piano, Robert Brophy on Viola and Rafael Rishik on Violin.

We will start this week's presentation with the Brahms’ Cello Sonata No.2 in F Major op.99 featuring: Andrew Shulman on Cello and Orion Weiss on Piano.

That will be followed by the Brahms Piano Trio No.3 in C minor Op.101 featuring: Martin Chalifour on Violin, Lynn Harrell on Cello and Orion Weiss on Piano.

First we have Cello Sonata No.2 in F Major op.99. Brahms composed this in 1886 at the age of 53, more than twenty years after completing his first Cello Sonata.

 

Next we have Brahms’ Piano Trio No.3 in C minor Op.101 which Brahms composed in 1886 at age 53

This week we will start this week's presentation with the Brahms Clarinet Sonata No.1 in F minor op.120 featuring:  Boris Allakhverdyan on Clarinet and Bernadene Blaha on Piano.

That will be followed by the Brahms Piano Quartet No.2 in A Major Op.26 featuring:Orion Weiss on Piano, Margaret Batjer on Violin, Paul Neubauer on Viola and Robert deMaine on Cello.

First up we have Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata No. 1 in F minor, which he composed in 1894 at age 61.

 

Next up we have Brahms Piano Quartet No.2 in A Major Op.26 which Brahms composed in 1861 at age 28.

This week we will start this week's presentation with the Brahms Viola Sonata No.2 in E Flat Major Op. 120, performed by Johanna Nowik on Viola and Orion Weiss on Piano. That will be followed by the Brahms String Quartet in A minor Op.51 No.2 performed by the NHSQ.

First up, Johanna Nowik and Orion Weiss performing the Viola Sonata No. 2 in E Flat Major, one of the last chamber music works Brahms ever wrote, at the age of 61 in 1894

 

Next we have the NHSQ performing Brahms String Quartet in A minor Op.51 No.2.

This week we present Brahms’ Sonatensatz Scherzo in C minor as well as String Sextet No. 1 in B Flat Major Op. 18.

First we have Sonatensatz: Scherzo in C minor. The young Johannes Brahms composed this work in October of 1853 at the age of 20 and it was premiered by the great violinist Joseph Joachim. This iteration of Sonatensatz was performed by Rafael Rishik (Violin) and Robert Thies (Piano).

 

Next up we have the String Sextet No. 1 in B Flat Major which was composed by Brahms in 1860 at the age of 27. This performance featured Paul Neubauer (Viola), Lynn Harrell (Cello), Margaret Batjer (Violin), Rafael Rishik (Violin), Robert Brophy (Viola) and Andrew Shulman (Cello).

This week we present Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34. Orion Weiss (Piano) joined Roger Wilkie (Violin), Rafael Rishik (Violin), Robert Brophy (Viola) and Andrew Shulman (Cello).
